Contest for Six Scholarships and $7,500 Open to Creative Students
Alexandria, VA (February 28, 2012)—Negative Population Growth (NPG) President Donald Mann has issued an open invitation to film and video production students at the college level (as well as college-bound high school seniors) to join in a major scholarship contest that is part of NPG’s 40th anniversary celebration.
At stake are six scholarships (one for $2,500 and five for $1,000) which will be awarded this year to students who create original, insightful and informative videos to display how population growth will negatively affect the United States socially, economically, and environmentally. Information on the scholarship contest can be found at https://hen.ywb.mybluehost.me
In announcing the brand-new video scholarships, Mann stated: “With overpopulation already posing a huge threat to America’s social, economic and environmental future, it is important that we reach out to the younger generation and enlist them to help us sound the alarm about the destructive consequences of too many people. Just as important is the need to get today’s young people involved in working toward a smaller, truly sustainable U.S. population.”
The deadline for NPG to receive entries for this contest is April 24, 2012 and scholarship winners will be announced by June 29, 2012. Winning entries will appear on NPG’s website and Facebook page, linked to their e-mail based NPG Journal, and posted to popular websites such as YouTube where they will gain widespread recognition.
The new video scholarships targeted to a college-age audience are an extension of previous successful scholarship programs carried out by NPG which focused on elementary and secondary students. All are designed to make young Americans profoundly aware of the fact that U.S. population is projected to grow to more than 438 million people (compared to today’s 313 million) by mid-century.
