NPG Teacher Packets Arrive in Classrooms Across America

Annual Educational Effort Reaches Tens of Thousands of Students

Alexandria, VA (November 17, 2022): America’s teachers are enthusiastically requesting Negative Population Growth’s 2022 Teacher Packets to facilitate classroom discussions on U.S. population size and growth. NPG is pleased to share that the information has been updated to reflect new data from the 2020 Census and also that this educational resource continues to be free to teachers nationwide.

The packet of material includes up-to-date student fact sheets (one copy for each student), a large, full-color NPG U.S. population poster, a PowerPoint presentation to help guide lesson plans on population issues and select NPG Forum papers that highlight the dangers of our nation’s ever-increasing population. New to this year’s Teacher Packet is a two-sided Activity Sheet for students. Featuring a word search and a crossword puzzle, this new hands-on exercise provides students the opportunity to immediately apply knowledge gained from our Student Fact Sheets.

Commenting on the huge success of this, now thirteen-year-old program, Craig Lewis, NPG’s Executive Director, stated: “Every year, NPG offers population-focused materials to teachers across America. Our purpose is to provide critical up-to-date resources on population growth in the United States for American students from coast to coast. As hundreds of teachers look to receive our educational packets to boost their lesson plans, we at NPG are fortified with the knowledge that we are engaging with the next generation at the most important intersection of their young lives – the classroom.”

“By sharing the realities of the negative consequences of ‘too many people’ with today’s students, teachers are able to open pupils’ eyes as to how their generation will face new population-related challenges,” Lewis said.

He continued, “With young people already very alert to the climate change issue, it’s vital they also learn how tens of millions of new people in the U.S. will lead to greater competition for limited water, food, housing and energy; how it will further stress our country’s already fragile infrastructure; and how overpopulation will dangerously impact already threatened farms, forests, rivers and fragile wildlife habitats.”

Lewis added: “This program is especially important when you consider current U.S. Census projections indicating that we could grow from today’s 333.2 million to more than 400 million by 2060.”

“Every year we hear from teachers who praise our fact-filled packets and highlight the value of getting students involved in speaking out on this important issue now, so that they can help shape a livable future.
