Declares Voter by Defeated Members of Congress to be an “Insult to Democracy”
Alexandria, VA (November 16, 2010)—Negative Population Growth (NPG) President Don Mann called on Congressional leaders to put off any vote on immigration reform until January 2011 when the newly elected members of the 112th Congress take office.
Working to derail a move by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to force a vote on the pending DREAM Act in the lame-duck session which is convening this week, NPG has taken out advertisements in national publications. The ads call on all Americans to speak out to “stop this travesty in its tracks” in reference to the fact that the legislation would grant amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants now in our country and open the doors for them to gain full American citizenship.
NPG calls the DREAM Act and other sweeping amnesty measures “nation-changing legislation” that will “change the population dynamics of our nation forever.” Recognizing that past amnesty-related measures have failed to win Congressional approval, the organization notes that “All that is needed right now to make it a reality is to gain the support of a few defeated or retiring Members of Congress who can vote for this disastrous legislation.”
Mann decried the move by Congressional leaders to muscle an amnesty bill through Congress and do an end run around the will of the people at this time. He stated, “It is nothing more than an insult to democracy and total pandering to the open-border lobby.” He continued “Even worse, we are putting this important decision in the hands of dozens of members of Congress who were rejected by the voters this month. It’s not hard to imagine the vote trading and backroom deals that will be used to make it a reality.”
NPG is a non-profit member-based organization that was founded in 1972. Â It has thousands of members and supporters nationwide working to get Congress to create a National Population Policy that will lead to sustainable population levels in for the future.
