ID-100291747aCOMMENTARY – NPG PRESIDENT DONALD MANN

As we wind down 2014, we can look back on a challenging year for NPG.

From the very beginning, the immigration issue found its way into the nation’s headlines almost daily. Congress continued to debate comprehensive immigration legislation… an influx of countless thousands of unaccompanied children from Central America crossed our nation’s southern borders… scores of immigration laws already on the books went unenforced… and President Obama weighed in with an executive order putting millions of illegal aliens on the road to citizenship, creating massive mayhem with the entire issue.

Where do we go from here? That’s up to the new 114th Congress, which promises that immigration reform will be one of its primary issues. We’ll have to wait and see. As I have made clear in the past, the demand of many legislators that we must address all of the facets of immigration reform in one massive piece of legislation stands as a major blockade to progress on this critical issue. They key is to take individual issues separately – as we have done in NPG’s 10 Principles for a Responsible U.S. Population Policy – and progress incrementally toward reasonable and responsible solutions.

In all, NPG has fared quite well throughout 2014. We continue to strengthen and build our membership; our exceptional educational programs reached record numbers of students; our hard-hitting media effort carried our message on the dangers of population growth to millions of Americans; Members of Congress and other elected leaders were kept well aware of the opinions of our members regarding population and immigration issues; and our newly-revised website (www.NPG.org) continues to serve as a primary source of information for hundreds of thousands of people worldwide.

We are especially grateful to all NPG members, friends, and supporters for their generous support – and we look forward to a very active 2015, NPG’s 43rd year!

ID-10097473aMID-DECEMBER POLL ON OBAMA AND IMMIGRATION

A Fox News poll released on December 10th found that a majority of Americans oppose President Obama’s recent changes to our nation’s immigration law.

The poll inquired: “Do you approve or disapprove of the recent changes Barack Obama made to how the United States government will handle illegal immigrants currently living in this country, including allowing more than four million illegal immigrants to remain temporarily in the United States to work?” The response: 51% of Americans disapproved, while only 43% approved.

NPG has long held that a majority of Americans are concerned for the future of our nation’s environment, economy, natural resources, infrastructure, and quality of life. By continuing to increase our nation’s population through mass immigration policies, elected officials are placing greater strain on these precious – and already overburdened – resources. Further expanding America’s immigration policies will not solve these problems – it will only make them worse.

We encourage our members – and all concerned Americans – to contact their elected officials and make your voice heard! Encourage them to review and embrace policies which act to slow, halt, and eventually reverse U.S. population growth. (For more information, see NPG’s 10 Principles for a Responsible U.S. Population Policy.)

quotable

“The thing is, the government will never tell us the actual number of illegal aliens in the country because the elites need to convince us that it is a small number in order to advance their goal, i.e. amnesty. It is never a good thing when the goal of the government is at odds with the goals of the citizenry.”
