EARTH DAY 2024
Negative Population Growth, Inc., the nation’s premier organization devoted to the study of U.S. population size and growth, commends the entire environmental movement for its incredible dedication to protect America’s fragile ecosystems. Their strong devotion has led to many positive changes, including:
• Organizing the first Earth Day
• Establishing the Environmental Protection Agency
• Passing the Clean Air and Clean Water Acts
• Implementing various recycling programs
• Creating a general sense of environmental responsibility
Over the past five decades, the United States – through its various government agencies, nonprofit organizations, and millions of concerned citizens – has made huge strides toward protecting our environment. All Americans benefit from these accomplishments.
Unfortunately, one overwhelming challenge remains.
On the first Earth Day in 1970, the population of the United States was about 203 million. Today, 54 years later, U.S. population stands at more than 336 million – an increase of more than 65% – and we are still growing. Each additional person added to the U.S. population makes true environmental sustainability more difficult.
IT’S TIME TO RECOGNIZE POPULATION GROWTH AS AN ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEM
Negative Population Growth is leading the fight to make the connection between environmental degradation and population size and growth. Please join our effort by signing our petition calling for the Environmental Protection Agency to formally recognize population growth as our nation’s most pressing environmental problem.
