AN OPEN LETTER TO CONGRESS
Immigration Reform Must Help Rein-In Population Growth!

With Congress now open to the long-overdue challenge to “fix” America’s broken immigration system it is essential that our nation ends up with workable, common-sense immigration laws.

So it is vital that the end result include reasonable policies that not only severely crack down on illegal immigration but also radically scale back current legal immigration.

To reach that goal we strongly support the end of the visa lottery and a major curtailment of current chain migration that will only permit new citizens to sponsor a spouse or minor children to join them in America. These two changes alone could cut by more than 350,000 the number of people coming to reside in our country each year. That will make a huge difference in scaling back today and into the future soaring population numbers that put our nation at great risk for the future.

We also urge positive and decisive action on legislation that would mandate E-Verify for all employers, strengthening our borders, severely penalizing those who overstay their visas and remain in our country illegally, reducing refugee flows, and limiting birthright citizenship to children born on American soil to U.S. citizens or legal resident aliens. Birthright citizenship is a practice that is being greatly abused!

It is crucial to remember that immigration will soon be the major driving force behind America’s increasing population numbers, accounting for more than 80% of future growth, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. With our nation’s present population of 327 million expected to grow to as many as 400 million people by 2050, responsible action on these and other immigration-related measures will greatly help put the brakes on that dangerous growth.

Please remember that in casting your vote on each immigration reform measure you could be locking-in America’s immigration laws for decades to come. By acting responsibly and helping to scale back population growth you will also help create a more livable world for our children, grandchildren, and all generations to come.
