Edwin S. Rubenstein, 1946 – 2025
Director of Research, NPG

With great sadness, NPG must announce the passing of our dear friend and colleague, Edwin S. Rubenstein. Edwin served as NPG’s Director of Research from 2017 until his passing on July 5, 2025. Prior to joining the staff of NPG, Edwin served as a consultant and independent author for several years. During his tenure at our organization, Edwin authored more than thirty Forum papers and multiple special reports. He also initiated our popular State Profile series and wrote the first seventeen editions for that collection.

Born in Baltimore, MD, Edwin earned his bachelor’s degree in economics from Johns Hopkins University. He then moved to New York City and completed an MA in public finance at Columbia University. Edwin worked in various capacities within the business and finance communities, serving at Hudson Institute, Manhattan Institute, W.R. Grace & Co., and Moody’s Investors Service. He also worked in the public sector, serving as a staff economist at the New York State Commission on Education (the Fleischman Commission). Edwin’s work on public policy issues appeared in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Forbes Magazine, National Review, and Harvard Business Review.

NPG was truly fortunate to have known and worked with Edwin for nine years. Incredibly knowledgeable about many facets of immigration policy and the resulting effects on the U.S. economy and quality of life, Edwin brought expertise to every conversation. NPG staff meetings are now conducted via Zoom, per the request of Edwin, so that “we can all see each other.” He was professional and informed, as well as personable and caring.

Edwin will be missed, and his impact on NPG and our objectives will never be forgotten.

Many condolences. The kind of insight he had was rare even on an overpopulated planet. I am sure he had more wisdom to share and the world is poorer with his sudden absence.
