EARTH DAY 2025

On April 22, 1970, millions of environmental activists congregated in various cities across the United States with a clear goal: to raise awareness of serious environmental problems. At that time industries across the country faced little if any restrictions on pollutants expelled into the air and water, leading to horrible smog and air pollution in major cities and dangerous water supplies throughout the nation. These concerned Americans set off a firestorm of political discussion, eventually leading to the creation of the United States’ Environmental Protection Agency. Due to the implementation of the Clean Air Act and the Clean Water Act, among dozens of other measures, environmental quality dramatically improved over the next fifty-plus years.

Today, our nation is at great risk of returning to the horribly polluted air and waterways present before 1970, thanks to dangerous and foolish actions by the Trump Administration. In recent weeks, President Trump and his advisors have worked to dismantle many of the environmental protection programs established in the 1970s, favoring an obsession with growth and profit over our nation’s environmental future. Examples of these egregious decisions include:

    • Removing more than thirty regulations designed to limit pollutants from vehicles, coal-fired power plants, and other industries.
    • Blatantly negating compiled data from decades of research by climate scientists to formally state that the EPA rejects the concept of climate change.
    • Suggesting that prior greenhouse gas emissions regulations be voided.

Negative Population Growth, Inc. was founded in 1972, shortly after the first Earth Day. We have spent more than five decades educating Americans regarding the need for policies designed to slow, halt, and eventually reverse U.S. population growth to protect our environment and quality of life. Thanks to the creation of the EPA and its various programs, our environment has improved drastically over the last 55 years. We will not sit idly by allowing those effective programs to be destroyed due to a handful of “Drill, Baby, Drill” politicians.

MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD BEFORE OUR ENVIRONMENT IS DESTROYED

Call the EPA at (202) 564-4700 and your Senators/Congressional Representative (Capitol Switchboard: (202) 224-3121.) Tell them you DO NOT support the removal of environmental protections.

Our nation deserves better.
